About

“A fine beer may be judged
with only one sip,
but it's better to be thoroughly sure.”

I'm no expert.
I just enjoy good beer.

This was a one-year project to document all the different beers I drank from April of 2010 to April of 2011. I will continue to update this periodically, though!

Cheers!

Great Lakes Brewing Co. Eliot NessAlc/Vol: 6.2%
This is a great, malty amber lager with a sweet finish. It’s a bit different from what I’d say are my “usuals,” but I keep going back to it. Kind of creamy and smooth with a little caramel and a hint of spice. Good stuff.

Great Lakes Brewing Co. The Doppelrock   Alc/Vol: 7.8%
Sweet and smooth with caramel malts while maintaining a nice bitterness too. Easy to drink and something a little different for me. Good stuff. It grew on me quickly and now I wish it came in six-packs instead of fours.

Great Lakes Brewing Co. Christmas Ale Alc/Vol: 7.5%
One of my favorite beers. I wait all year for this one (along with Great Lakes’ early spring release, Conway’s Irish Ale). The Christmas Ale is warm and complex with a great mix of spices. Lots of ginger and cinnamon; hoppy but not overly bitter. Good stuff.

Great Lakes Brewing Co. OktoberfestAlc/Vol: 6.5%
Great Lakes is my all-time favorite brewery. I introduced my dad to Great Lakes after I spent a few years living in Ohio, and early last week he made a trip to the brewery and then came to visit and bought me a few treats. Among them: Oktoberfest. This is a very drinkable amber lager. If you like the Eliot Ness, you should like this. I don’t notice an extreme difference between the two to be honest, though this does have a tiny bit more of a hop bite and the alcohol content is a little higher. It’s smooth, with a great malt/slightly caramel flavor. You really can’t go wrong with anything from Great Lakes. I promise.

This one’s in my top 10 beers. It’s harder to critique a beer I’ve had so many times… Good bitterness, good hoppiness, good buzz. I say it’s totally drinkable; could be because I’ve had so many. That’s not a bad thing though. Either way, I don’t think you can go wrong with anything from Great Lakes. Their beers make me happy, end of story.
